It was a privilege last year to be asked to steward at the Club's first show and an even greater honour to judge at this second show. I have followed the progress of the Tollers over the years at the United Retriever Club events. I suppose that it is inevitable that with the increase in numbers there is a greater variation in type. I shall follow with interest the next generation on from the days winners. The Reserve best in each sex were puppies. On the day, the dogs were of a far higher quality than the bitches. I was particularly pleased with the impressive line up of winning dogs, the sort of line up one would be pleased with a CC breed.
Thank you to the exhibitors for their entries and very enjoyable and interesting day.
Veteran Dog or Bitch (9 entries)
1st | Harding & Whitehill NAROD THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM Well known top winning dog now 8 and a half years old. Lovely head and expression. Good angulation, presents a completely balanced picture. Moved with tremendous drive, very light on his feet. BV. |
2nd | Mortimore LYONHOUSE BEN STUART At 13 years this fit active dog moved better than many half his age. Fine head. Good body, bone and feet. Moved straight and true. |
3rd | Rogers QUOYGARD SKY |
Res | Powley JABY LAVENDER AT DANEHAVEN |
VHC | Winwood & Ward FOXDOWN ANGEL OF MELANITTA |
Puppy Dog (10 entries)
1st | Lovett NEILSHARBOUR DUDDLESWELL Very nice 10 months old red dog everything in the right place for age. Good proportions, angles and balance. Good head and lovely eye colour. Tail carriage not quite up to the requirement of the breed. |
2nd | Hibbs CORLITGOLD MINNINNEWAH Not such a tidy looking dog or as masculine as the winner. Good proportions and bone. Strong powerful mover. Tail well up. |
3rd | Tuck TREVARGH PLEASANT MOMENTS |
Res | Hawkins TREVARGH TICKLED TO DEATH |
VHC | Acton FOXDOWN HUGO |
Junior Dog (4 entries)
1st | Harding & Whitehill TREVARGH THE ENTERTAINER AT BRIZEWOOD 10 months old puppy. Ideal head proportions and ear set. Hope his eyes will darken. Very good height to length ratio. Very well presented. Powerful accurate mover. RBD and BPIS. |
2nd | Powley KYMIN GONNA BE GREAT AT DANEHAVEN At just a day over the year this was a very good youngster much lighter coat colour than winner but had a lovely dark eye with pleasing expression. Stood a little bum high, but this is just his youth at the moment. |
3rd | Lovett DANEHAVEN ROGGAN |
Novice Dog (3 entries)
1st | Curtis & Witts BEAUSJOUR NINE CARRAT 3 years old dark red dog who appears rather front heavy with profuse coat. Very strong bone and excellent feet. Extremely powerful mover. Tail a little bit too much over. |
2nd | Palfrey WYLYERIVER WARBLER Smaller much finer dog. Nice eye and expression. Moved ok. |
Graduate Dog (5 entries)
A difficult class to sort out every dog was so different.
1st | La Turner HILLSCOURT BARON THEOBALD A nicely presented tidy dog who perhaps is slightly tall to length ratio. Has a pleasing head and expression. Steady on the move but not over animated. |
2nd | Rogers EUSANIT TAKE IT EASY Presents the opposite picture to the winner but being a little bit too much longer and lower. Very good bone and a very strong powerful mover. |
3rd | Powley DANEHAVEN SEVERN |
Post Graduate Dog (3 entries)
Three very nice dogs, nearly as difficult as Graduate but this was sorting out quality.
1st | Strevens AQUACADIAN FLIN THE RED AT TOLLISTY Well balanced masculine dog. Head a trifle strong not quite the refinements required in a Toller. Lovely expression, excellent drive on the move with a very firm topline. |
2nd | Bradley CAMUSMOR WHATTABARGIN FOR RUDDYDUCK Another very nice dog a little bit longer than the winner but nevertheless still the required balance of a Toller. Good head and eye. Good bone and feet. Again a firm topline. |
3rd | Burchell BEAUSJOUR FIRST 'N FOREMOST |
Limit Dog (5 entries)
1st | Burchell PALUDIC PLEASURE TRIP A lovely type of dog of the required proportions, angles and balance for the breed. Good head and expression. Firm fit muscular body. Strong topline, powerful driving movement. |
2nd | Powley DANEHAVEN MACKENZIE A well proportioned red dog. Slightly lighter built than the winner but all the same a good Toller. Nice head and expression. Not happy on the move. |
3rd | Bradley CAMUSMOR KNOCKANDO AT RUDDYDUCK |
Res | Russell & Smith NEWFANOVA PUDSEY BEAR |
Open Dog (3 entries)
1st | Smith CAMUSMOR GLEN SCOTIA AT DALLYVISTA A lovely dog just coming up to 4 years. So well proportioned and balanced. Pleasing masculine expression. Firm through the body and loin. Powerful hindquarters and so light on his feet as he powered effortlessly around the ring. BD. That little bit of maturity he carries won him BIS over his younger sister. |
2nd | Edridge CAMUSMOR BRUICHLADDICH AT TILITA SHCM A fully mature profusely coated litter brother of the winner. Super head and friendly expression. Strong bone and tight feet. Although a strong powerful mover not the lightness on the move of his brother. |
3rd | Westwood & Johnson CAN CH LITTLERIVER'S COLONIAL BOY WITH TOLLYHIMMEL (IMP CAN) |
Puppy Bitch (6 entries)
1st | Moult CORLITGOLD MALILA OF CROFTWELL Lovely feminine 10 months old bitch of all the correct proportions. Sweet expression. Good angulation. Good bone to body ratio. A clear winner here. Put up a very spirited performance in the challenge to take RBB and RBPIS. Well done. |
2nd | Hubbard CORLITGOLD MIAKODA In my notes I put very similar to winner now I see they are litter sisters. This one did stand a trifle bum high on the day which spoilt her outline but this will change as she grows into herself and becomes more balanced and accustomed to showing. Moved well. |
3rd | Brown FOXDOWN MYSTERY AT STELLENBOSCH |
Res | Lovett NEILSHARBOUR WRENS WARREN |
VHC | Mattelaer NEILSHARBOUR CHAYLEBEATE |
Junior Bitch (5 entries)
1st | Clark KYMIN GEORGIE GIRL Like the second in JD a day out of puppy. A lovely feminine bitch with the sweetest expression, used her ears, yet she still retains the correct amount of substance that is required. Perfect body to bone and very good feet, consequently moved straight and true with power and drive. |
2nd | Anstead SHOREDANCER SEA PINK Another lovely bitch. Slightly taller but still balanced. Good true movement but only carried her tail level. |
3rd | Powley DANEHAVEN TANGIER |
Res | Russell & Smith SHOREDANCER SHELLSEEKER |
Novice Bitch (5 entries)
1st | Westwood & Johnson EUSANIT NEW KID IN TOWN WITH TOLLYHIMMEL Lovely bitch of correct proportions. Good head with sweet expression. Slightly low to length but not overly so. Very good mover. |
2nd | Russell & Smith SHOREDANCER SHELLSEEKER Reserve in Junior Bitch. Fine feminine bitch. Adequate bone, good feet. Moved true. Tended to fly her ears. |
3rd | Westwood EUSANIT TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT |
Res | Winwood & Ward FOXDOWN CHIQUITITA OF MELANITTA |
Graduate Bitch (4 entries)
1st | Gibson CAMUSMOR ANY DREAM ULDO FOR ERIKACHEN This was the star of the day for me, I am not surprised to see she is a younger full sister of the Best Dog. Quality will out! Beautiful head with such expressive eyes and outlook. So well put together and balanced. True powerful movement so light on her feet. Gave her brother a very close call, just lost out on the dogs maturity. I'd love to see these two together again in a couple of years time. RBIS. |
2nd | Westwood & Johnson EUSANIT NEW KID IN TOWN WITH TOLLYHIMMEL |
Post Graduate Bitch (5 entries)
1st | Macleod & Hussey CAMUSMOR MADJESTIC VISION Paler coloured bitch of good proportions. Slightly out balanced body to bone. Good feet, strong happy mover. Tail carriage correct. |
2nd | Akehurst RIPPLERUSH FANFARE This was a much darker bitch with better balanced bone to body, but preferred the head and expression of the winner. Another good mover. |
3rd | Widdowson DECOYMANS FIRE PRINCESS OF CORLITGOLD |
Res | Mortimore FOXDOWN MY FAIR LADY |
VHC | Strevens DECOYMANS PIPER MAGGIE AT TOLLISTY |
Limit Bitch (5 entries)
This was a poor class, not at all the quality I would expect in a Limit class.
1st | Clark HILLSCOURT ARTY MISS A nice enough looking bitch spoilt by rather prominent round eye. Good bone and angulation but untidy on the move. |
2nd | Powley DANEHAVEN NANIKA Red bitch. Not really balanced enough, not having the length required. Expression spoilt by folded ears. |
3rd | Lovett CANDEEBAR CHOCTAW DESIGN |
Res | Macleod & Hussey CAMUSMOR TOMINTOUL |
Open Bitch (4 entries)
1st | Hawkins CAMUSMOR CAOL ILA OF TREVARGH Mature bitch of correct balance and proportions with adequate bone. For me the eye did not tone with the coat colour. |
2nd | Macleod & Hussey NEWFANOVA JEMIMA BEAR AT CAMUSMOR Slightly bigger bitch with good bone, being taller, and therefore not the length and balance required. Tended to overreach on the move. |
3rd | Westwood FOXDOWN IN EXCESS OVER EUSANIT |
Special Working Dog or Bitch (3 entries)
1st | Bradley CAMUSMOR KNOCKANDO AT RUDDYDUCK |
2nd | Curtis & Witts BEAUSJOUR NINE CARRAT |
3rd | Russell & Smith SHOREDANCER SHELLSEEKER |
