What a wonderful entry to judge, it was an exciting prospect to know that the entry was 99 dogs & an appointment I was eagerly awaiting! To see 20 in open bitch was a joy and 19 in post grad bitch was the most challenging of all the classes as there was so many from the top drawer to try to separate. I have firm views of the breed & was pleased to be able to find all the points I was looking for. I knew that there was great deviation in size & shape but was amazed by how much difference there was. I was trying to find dogs & bitches that fitted my interpretation of the Standard but was dismayed by the difference in leg length. Some of the shorter dogs then lost balance by being too long & some of the longer legged dogs had shorter bodies - very confusing I felt. The Standard calls for a back short with loins strong and muscular, all too often I found the loin was too long leading to weakness in topline coupled with overlong back, a fault which must not perpetuate. Fronts too are a problem too many were straight in upper arm & this gives such wasted movement & seems to team up with the overlong body. I found the dogs to be stronger in quality than the bitches, in a lot of breeds it is the other way round, so it will be interesting to follow your progress over the next couple of years. It is not all doom & gloom, I was delighted with my prize winners & there are some exciting prospects waiting in the wings. I am sure that this year will be the breed's year. Can I just thank my hard working stewards for keeping the ring moving allowing us to make the group with ease.
Veteran Dog (5 entries)
1st | Harding & Whitehill NAROD THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM What a great class & a great dog to start with! You can see why he has been top dog for so long, his showmanship & wonderful head, eye & expression are just what I was looking for. A dog I have obviously judged before but he looked better than I have ever seen him. Put down in excellent coat & condition, it just gleamed with vigour & good health, moved so well & soundly, good neck & shoulders & a strong topline held both set up & moving, showed his socks off & nearly stole RBD but had to give way to his son. |
2nd | Stacey & Copeland NEWFANOVA NORDIC XANADU OF AVONWHARFE SHCM Similar type to 1 is slightly smaller all through, good head & expression, liked his topline & tailset, moved well with correct tail carriage, excellent hindquarters, bone & feet, again excellent coat in wonderful condition. |
3rd | Mortimore FOXDOWN LAID BACK SAM Well made typical boy not showing his age at all, his head & expression appealed & a well shaped eye & well carried ears completed the picture, moved well holding his topline & correctly carried tail, good coat of the correct colour, liked his strong hindquarters & balance. |

Special Puppy Dog (6 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Hanvey & McAlister TASARLA SNOW SHOWER Well balanced baby whose size & shape appealed, excellent head & expression with a good eye & well carried & used ears of a good size, although still young his movement was co-ordinated & true, good neck & shoulders & a well held topline, correctly set tail. Still learning his trade but I am sure he has potential & at the end of this excellent entry there was no denying him BP. |
2nd | Lovett NEILSHARBOUR GILLS LAP Taller boy who now needs to grow into his frame & settle in front movement, again with that classic head I was looking for, with a good eye & well used ears, when his chest deepens he will be balanced & one to watch, showed well to win his place. |
3rd | Lovett NEILSHARBOUR DUDDLESWELL Litter brother to 2 I see, good body proportions, moved well. Preferred 2's head & is of the slightly smaller mould. These boys just need time but they acquitted themselves well here to win their places. |

2nd | Westermann SEAWILD'S TASTE OF TRUTH Dog of a good size & shape who now needs to mature to complete a very interesting picture, loved his head, expression & eye, excellent type of Toller with good bone & feet, moved with style & panache, holding his topline carrying his well set tail correctly, put down in excellent coat & condition. |
3rd | Withey & Norris KYMIN GUILDER Rewarded him for his type & head patterns, moved well but his topline today was loose & this spoilt the outline both standing & moving, he is balanced & a good chest is coming with a good loin & well set tail, nice, well presented coat. |

What a class & what a tussle! I have judged both these brothers before, so I was not surprised to see them both again fighting for the top spot as they are both quality.
1st | Smith CAMUSMOR GLEN SCOTIA AT DALLYVISTA My, how he has matured, I am thrilled with his progress, his owners have just the right amount of body & weight on him to complement his frame, he gleamed with condition & muscle tone but for me where he excels is in his wonderful, masculine head, it is balanced & is completed with well set ears & a well set & correctly shaped eye, good mouth & lip placement, lovely neck & shoulders leading to a strong correctly shaped ribcage & strong loin, good croup & tailset, excellent well muscled hindquarters & good feet, his young handler got the very best out of him & his showmanship & type took him through to BD & BOB. |
2nd | Edridge CAMUSMOR BRUICHLADDICH AT TILITA SHCM These two brothers, out of the two veteran winners are great ambassadors for the breed, he too exudes breed type, is well made & put down to the minute, showed & moved well, most of l's comments applies to him too but to nitpick today I just preferred the balance of 1's head but going round the ring they certainly made an excellent BD & RBD. |
3rd | Westwood & Johnson CAN CH LITTLERIVER'S COLONIAL BOY WITH TOLLYHIMMEL (IMP CAN) Another that delighted me, he is a well balanced dog with that good head & expression, kind eye & well set ears that I wanted, excellent movement using his strong, well muscled hindquarters & correctly placed tail to complete the picture, good head carriage & strong topline, good bone & feet. |
