I greatly enjoyed judging this entry – which was strong in both numbers and quality. The breed seems to have improved greatly in quality over the last couple of years and there were a number of very promising youngsters. It was also super to see continental and trans-Atlantic dogs. Temperament was generally good. Only a very few dogs (all older) were not happy to be handled. There were only a very few folded ears. Points of concern included a few undershot mouths in some younger bitches and some rather larger feet. I felt that one or two otherwise dogs had rather too prominent cheeks associated with overlarge, bulging eyes and somewhat thick skulls which together gave an untypical expression.
Veteran Dog (6 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Harding & Whitehill NAROD THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM Still at 11 years of age an outstanding example of the breed. Good proportions and in no way exaggerated. Attractive head and expression. Good ears. Powerful hindquarters. Lively sound mover. |
2nd | Simonson CH/OTCH WESTERLEA'S SIR EDMUND Lively dog in excellent condition. Less substance than winner but typical profile, well balanced. Good topline. Sound mover. |
3rd | Mortimore LYONHOUSE BASIL 12 year old. Still lively and alert. |

Special Puppy Dog (3 entries)
This was a lovely class to judge. Three brothers all of a similar type. All outgoing in temperament and typical in profile. Very difficult to separate. Preferred the winner's expression, strong hindquarters and very jaunty ground covering movement. These three show great promise for the future. The winner was best special puppy beating his sister.

Res | Dyson EUSANIT GUY FAWKES |
Yearling Dog (5 entries)
1st | Clark FLANOVA GLENDRONACH Stood out in this class. Typical in head and expression. Good tail carriage when moving. Sound mover. |
2nd | Waugh DINASKARREK'S RED PRANCER Finer type. Better lay of shoulder than most. Eye could perhaps be a little smaller and darker. Needs more coat and body to complete the picture. |
3rd | Smith DINASKARREK'S RED DASHER Solid dog. Good ears. At the moment running up a little behind. |
Res | Morse EUSANIT RED DEVIL ROCKET |
VHC | Collier EUSANIT THUNDER FLASH |
Post Graduate Dog (25 entries, 3 absent)
1st | Powley DANEHAVEN DETROIT Striking dog. Up to size but typical in outline. Alert expression. Balanced angulation. Particularly good on the move with good tail carriage, covering ground well with good drive and absolutely true movement front and rear. To complete the picture I would just prefer a little flatter coat. However his overall appearance and soundness won him best dog and BOB. |
2nd | Anghileri KITIMAT TASTE OF RUSSET JW Another nice dog. Not quite the sparkle or the eye and expression of the winner. Moved well. |
3rd | Stacey & Copeland AVONWHARFE HALLELUJAH Lively dog. Lighter in build than those above. Needs more coat and feathering but sound type. |
Res | Symons DANEHAVEN MUSHAMUSH |

1st | Redmond & Sortwell AM/CAN CH TOLLCHESTER'S TOP SECRET A lovely class to judge. The winner has a lovely balanced profile and particularly pleasing head and expression. Good angulation front and back. Presented in lovely condition and in no way exaggerated. Nice flat coat. Moved soundly but without the verve of the BOB winner and tended to carry his tail rather level. Reserve Best Dog. |
2nd | Harding & Whitehill TREVARGH THE ENTERTAINER AT BRIZEWOOD Another good dog. Powerful with plenty of bone. Good movement with plenty of reach and drive. I preferred the winner's head and eye. |
3rd | Stobbart CAMUSMOR WHATADREAM A sound typical dog with pleasing expression and good front. Carrying tail well when moving. Just not the same presence as the two above him. |

1st | Rogers EUSANIT TAKE IT EASY A soundly made dog overall better proportioned than some in this class with a more typical head. |
2nd | Moossun TASARLA SNOW BLIZZARD Good proportions. Perhaps a little strong in head and could carry less weight to advantage. |
3rd | Morgan-Lloyd & Parr KYMIN GLYNDWR Proportionately shorter in leg than those above and could have a slightly less prominent eye. |
Res | Lovett NEILSHARBOUR GILLS LAP |
VHC | Hanvey & McAlister IR SH CH TASARLA SNOW SHOWER |
Veteran Bitch (4 entries)
1st | Mortimore FOXDOWN AMBILA This was the most disappointing class of the day and perhaps the fact that this was the only class in which I withheld awards indicates just how much the quality of the breed has improved over the years – not just in looks but also in temperament. The winner had the best ears in the class and was the best mover. |
2nd | Withey DECOYMANS MORNING FIRE Moved reasonably well. Would prefer less prominent cheeks and more length of muzzle. |
3rd | WITHHELD |
Res | WITHHELD |

Open Bitch (25 entries, 5 absent)
1st | Gibson CAMUSMOR ANY DREAM ULDO FOR ERIKACHEN Immediately caught my eye when she moved in profile at the beginning of the class. Lovely head and expression, balanced angulation and excellent tail carriage when moving. Very light, lithe mover and in no way exaggerated. When I last judged the breed and gave her best bitch I said then she was the best bitch I had seen of the breed in this country. I have no reason to change my mind on that! Since then she has proved herself an excellent brood bitch by producing four lovely puppies that graced the special puppy classes. Best bitch. The challenge for BOB was very closely run – I just preferred the dog's absolutely true movement. |
2nd | Moult CORLITGOLD MALILA OF CROFTWELL Another lovely lively bitch with a pleasing expression. Sound mover. Just not quite as 'special' as winner. |
3rd | Wibaux CS/FR/LUX/SK CH CASSIOPEE DU VAL DES GRANGES Completed a trio of nice bitch bitches. Soundly constructed. Good flat coat. Sound level mover in profile. Perhaps a little longer in proportion than those above. |
