Thank you for the sporting attitude. It was very good to hear strong applause & congratulations throughout the judging. I attended the first breed specific seminar held in 2006, & have followed this charming breed with interest ever since. Today I feel that the breed is somewhat in limbo, with a huge variance in type & size with, at times, almost 'alien' movement not just for this breed but for what I would look for in a Gundog in general. I was, however, delighted with my main winners who I think would be wholly capable of doing a day's work in the field as well as performing in the show ring.
Veteran Dog (2 entries)
1st | Harding & Whitehill SH CH TREVARGH THE ENTERTAINER AT BRIZEWOOD A really super dog here, so full of breed type, a true Toller with substance, oozing quality & style. He has a classic head of correct proportions, excellent drop ears high set on the skull, with a kind & alert expression. He is good for depth, front, top-line & side gait, & he was seriously considered for the top honour but today I felt in the final challenge that he was just showing his age a touch in rear action & had to give way to the younger Open dog, but totally deserving of the RCC. |
2nd | Morse EUSANIT RED DEVIL ROCKET Smaller in type, but equally balanced, kind eyes & good topline. Good for length to height, but like so many in the breed here today, he was too close in rear action for my taste. |
Puppy Dog (2 entries)
1st | Burchell TIVALAKE MAKE 'EM LAUGH An easy winner here for me with correct dentition, good for height to length proportion & good in side gait. He is correct at this stage for bone, depth & topline. I would however prefer a touch more layback & he is another who could strengthen in rear action. BP. |
2nd | Sheppard & Upward HWYADEN APOLLO Correct drop ears, well placed & an OK topline. A typy looking youngster who could perhaps come up on leg a fraction & is a touch uncoordinated on the move. |
Junior Dog (2 entries)
1st | Burchell TIVALAKE MAKE 'EM LAUGH |
2nd | Dee MELANITTA CARELINUS Good for topline, tailset & carriage, & showing some extension in profile, I felt that he didn't quite have the ears or expression of the winner & was not as good coming back to me either. |
Post Graduate Dog (8 entries, 2 absent)
1st | Morgan ERIKACHEN O'RUADH FOR DELTANDAMBA JW Headed a very difficult & mixed class to judge. His head didn't immediately strike me, as did the heads of the previous class winners, but he is good for outline, tail carriage & OK for ribbing, a rich red colour & was in superb jacket. He is OK in front, but yet another who is too close for my liking behind. |
2nd | Wakely RIVERWATCHER KAVIKSUK Another slightly untypical head, broader than ideal for my taste & not the kind expression of the winner. He does however have good drop ears, a firm topline & correct tail carriage. |
3rd | Thompson ARBETSVILJANS GRANIT OF AMBERTOLLERS (IMP SWE) |
Res | Dee MELANITTA CARELINUS |
VHC | Rice TOLLERICE CARCILLO |
Limit Dog (9 entries, 3 absent)
1st | Strevens ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY JW Another class of compromise here. I felt that this dog was by far the best in outline on the stack. His head is again perhaps not the most typical head for me, but saying that it is balanced & is masculine. He shows some extension in profile, however, I would definitely like to see a better spring of rib, more body & here, once again, was another example of less than ideal rear action. |
2nd | Wakely RIVERWATCHER KAVIKSUK |
3rd | Wakely RIVERWATCHER NUKILIK |
Res | Moult & Savory ACANUCK SOUL REBEL OF CROFTWELL |
VHC | Ward FLUSHPOINT WHATA ARISTOCRAT AT MELANITTA (IMP SWE) |
Open Dog (9 entries, 3 absent)
1st | Anstead SH CH/LUX/BEL/INT SH CH RIVERWATCHER ATKA This dog appealed as my idea of the 'original Toller' from when I attended the first breed specific seminar many years back. He has a classic head, good drop ear & correct placement & a kind eye too. I liked his overall balance, outline & front action. I did feel however that he too could be a touch more accurate behind, but his side gait & overall enthusiasm just took him to the CC over a very good veteran. |
2nd | Parr KYMIN NEPTUNE Another good type, classic head & dark expressive eyes. This dog showed real drive behind & good width too, if a touch out coming back towards me. He holds a good outline & will do well. |
3rd | Burchell TIVALAKE JINGLE BELL ROCK SHCM RL2 |
Res | Harding & Whitehill GLENDERMACKI FOX CRAGG AT BRIZEWOOD |
VHC | Cox DECOYMANS PIPER DREAMTIME IN ICESTORM RL2 |
Veteran Bitch (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Brown AM GCH KYMIN IPSO FACTO (RE-IMP) My notes say 'very, very, stylish!' She excels in breed type, has a lovely feminine head & expression, although perhaps not using her ears to best advantage today. She is so well put together, is substantial & stylish, holding a very good outline both stood & on the move. It is in profile action that she really comes alive, extending & driving with fluidity around the ring, whilst being totally accurate both ways too. I loved her & had no hesitation awarding her the CC, BOB & BV. I gather that this win means that she has gained her UK title, congratulations! |
2nd | Ward FOXDOWN CECILIA OF MELANITTA A sweet head & kind expression. She is correct for bone, body & topline, & she also excels in profile action. |
Puppy Bitch (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st | WITHHELD |
2nd | WITHHELD |
Junior Bitch (4 entries, 3 absent)
1st | Moult & Savory EUSANIT NAUGHTY BUT NICE FOR CROFTWELL An ultra feminine youngster with a very good head, a lovely colour eye & super expression. I liked her front assembly, her correct length to height ratio, tailset & carriage. Good in profile, another yet again who needs to firm up behind! |
Post Graduate Bitch (8 entries, 3 absent)
1st | Carnovale KYMIN ORANGE BLOSSOM OF RHEE A classic headed bitch with lovely ears. I liked her for topline, body & overall balance. She moves well both ways on tight & round feet. |
2nd | Cox ALLIANCE DE LA VIE RED THISTLE IN ICESTORM (IMP NLD) Another lovely expression here & good ears too. She was, however, not using her tail to advantage but really did extend in profile action. |
3rd | Akehurst THALASSA UNDER THE RED SKY AT RIPPLERUSH (IMP NLD) |
Res | Newson TIVALAKE MORE THAN WISHES |
VHC | Claxton TOLLERICE BERTUZZI BEG EX |
Limit Bitch (8 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Adshead DANEHAVEN VERMILION FOR AFONBACH This bitch scored for her classically feminine head, super expression & well placed & carried ears. She too has super, tight, round feet & a strong topline, & fairly accurate both ways, showing some drive going away & some extension in profile. |
2nd | Black SEAHAVEN PARISH BELL A finer type with not quite the head or front action of the winner. She was however really well muscled behind & moved away with true drive & precision. |
3rd | Parr DANEHAVEN PELLY ON KYMIN |
Res | Johnson SEAHAVEN'S GLORIANA |
VHC | Morgan REDAURORA COMET'S CHRISTMAS OF DELTANDAMBA |
Open Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Anstead RIVERWATCHER PIKPAKTUK JW A clear winner in this class, a bitch who is very good to go over. She has a well balanced head, feminine with kind eyes & good ears. She has a strong topline, rounded tight feet & good bone & body substance & proportions. She moved OK both ways & extended in side gait. RCC winner. |
2nd | Akehurst THALASSA UNDER THE RED SKY AT RIPPLERUSH (IMP NLD) 3rd in Post Graduate, not the biggest of females, but is fairly well balanced with a feminine head & keen expression. Moved OK. |
3rd | Morse TOLLYHIMMEL MISTY CIDER |

4 | Burchell TIVALAKE MAKE 'EM LAUGH A well constructed compactly built dog with a lovely head and kind intelligent expression, good ear set, good neck and shoulders and deep body. Has a very good front and feet and was an active and true mover. In excellent coat and condition and with a lovely temperament. |
