My thanks for the very good entry, & the help of my two stewards who made my day go very smoothly, we had a very good sized ring & enough shade – & to complete the picture the weather was with us.

I have followed the breed from the time it arrived in this country, this today was my first time awarding CCs in the breed in the UK – but I have over the past 18 years given CACIBs under FCI rules in five countries, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Australia, France & Norway, so have seen a good many Tollers over the years & covering a good area.

I have given a lot of thought as to my comments here. Perhaps you know my thought on gundogs, they should all be able to do the job that they were originally bred for. To that end all the dogs we have owned have been trained to the gun & worked in the field. We are lucky to be able to do it – not all can – but you must always bear in mind when breeding, what job the breed is designed to do, i.e. "fit for function". I found my middle classes in bitches did not have the strength of bone or the size I was looking for. It is all in the name "Duck Toller" I was trying to imagine them bringing me back a duck, but in my mind's eye this was just not happening.

I won't mention size & strength again in the critiques, but it is something that needs to be worked at.

My DCC & BOB, Macleod & Hussey's Camusmor Stargazer, is a dog that I have watched from a puppy & done well for at shows over the years – he was looking the best I have ever seen him & for me had to take the top spot today. My RDCC & BV, Harding & Whitehill's Sh Ch Trevargh The Entertainer at Brizewood, at 9½ years is a superb animal in great condition & conforming to the Standard. My BCC & RBOB was Anstead's Riverwatcher Pikpaktuk, a super bitch with the strength & size that I was looking for. My RBCC was Parr's Danehaven Pelly On Kymin, again the size & strength that I was looking for. BP was Mcauliffe's Tivalake Temptation, 7½ months, soundly made with correct movement.

Veteran Dog (3 entries)

1^st	Harding & Whitehill SH CH TREVARGH THE ENTERTAINER AT BRIZEWOOD 9½ years & a super example of the breed, good masculine head, well angulated to the front & rearquarters, sound through the body with good ribs, topline, loin & tail carriage, well turned stifle, moving very soundly on well boned legs & good feet. In the best of coats. Happy to award him the RCC, very well deserved.
2^nd	Burt & Ashton DANEHAVEN KIPAWA 10 years, a very sound mover, not so flashy as 1, very soundly made with good angles to the front & rear, correct through the ribs, topline & tailset, in excellent coat.

Just 7 months, gives a good balanced picture, head correct for age, very good outline with nice balance of height to length, nicely angulated to front & rearquarters, good through the ribs, loin, topline & with well turned stifle, sound little mover on good legs & feet in pleasing coat. BPD.

Well turned stifle, with good low hocks, a really sound mover, made good use of his tail, 1 just had the edge on rear movement over 2.

2^nd	Fielder & Ashton PLAYING THE FIELDER AT CRETSHENGAN Neat smaller size, very well proportioned, most pleasing head, soundly made through the body with well angulated fore & rearquarters, ribs had good spring, topline & loin strong, made good use of his tail on the move, moved out very well.

A big class with some very good dogs.

1^st	Macleod & Hussey CAMUSMOR STARGAZER JW 4 years, he filled my eye for the Standard. Most pleasing masculine head, really good angles to front & rearquarters, good balance height to length, ribs had spring depth & length, loin short & strong, well held topline, good tailset & carriage, a very well turned stifle, with good second thigh & good low hocks, which he used well. Very sound coming & going & good extension in side movement, on good legs & feet. In the best of coats. It was his day & I was very happy to award him CC & BOB.
2^nd	Anstead SH CH/LUX/BEL/INT SH CH RIVERWATCHER ATKA Nearly 4 years, another correct size, most pleasing in head, good angles to front, 1's slightly better, excellent through the ribs, loin, topline, tailset & carriage. I would have liked more turn of stifle, he had good second thigh, & low hocks, well boned legs & good feet. In excellent coat.
