The dogs notably excelled the bitches for breed type & soundness in the entry. There was a preponderance of short upper arms, stilted, narrow or wide front movements & haphazard rear action particularly among the bitches, a high proportion of exhibits were not in their best coats. Some of the dogs were too small, fine in stature & lacked substance, & in heads the bitches were weak & often untypical. The breed appears from this entry today to be somewhat uncoordinated & directionless & yet present were at least two dogs which clearly showed the positives the breed can achieve & should serve as beacons of inspiration to breeders. I will not be judging the breed again for over two years & hopefully will enjoy assessing an improved picture on the next occasion.

Junior Dog (5 entries)
1st | Titovets & Eremin MACDREAMS TRENT FROM CASHEL VALE RL1 (IMP NLD) A very dark red colour coated 12 months old dog with wedged shaped head & keen expression, despite somewhat light eye colour, head well moulded for age. Not overly big but well constructed & proportioned throughout with firm, level topline. Well marked with head blaze & white tail tip, won class on soundness of movement & breed type. |
2nd | Sheppard & Upward HWYADEN APOLLO A 15 months old dog much heavier in frame than the winner but with a well balanced, wedge shaped head & soft expression, the best bone & feet on display in the class. Well sprung ribcage & broad, firm topline, typical breed coat, dense with white tail tip. Firm across the loins & well muscled hindquarters, bite & movement let him down today. |
3rd | Wright CAMUSMOR CROWN ROYAL Balanced head & intelligent expression on this 15 months old dog presented in pleasing full coat with well flagged tail. Sound overall with firm topline, strong bone & good tight feet. Needs to gain more body condition before further progressing for me. |

Post Graduate Dog (5 entries)
1st | Vaughan BORN TO RUN FOR VALSANNRA Well up to size at 3 years of age this dog has a clean, attractive breed outline, pleasing for type overall, a well proportioned head which could be slightly more wedged for me with better planes, though he excels in length of muzzle. Firm, level topline with super muscling across the loins, deep bodied with well sprung ribcage. Strong bone throughout & excellent tight, well padded feet. Well muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs, moved soundly but with a slight appearance of pounding in front. |
2nd | Titovets & Eremin MACDREAMS TRENT FROM CASHEL VALE RL1 (IMP NLD) |
3rd | Obern TIVALAKE ROCK ME BABY A smaller, neater 3 years dog compared to the winner but carrying a tad too much weight for me & slightly overly sprung in ribcage. Short coupled with firm topline & width across the loins, attractive head & kind, soft expression, a sound mover presented in very pleasing coat. |

1st | Wakely RIVERWATCHER KAVIKSUK A well angulated 2 years 8 months dog, jaunty gait with well set & carried tail, well balanced head & particularly pleasing, kind expression, movement driven by well muscled hindquarters. Won the class on his very sound movement. |
2nd | Vaughan BORN TO RUN FOR VALSANNRA |
3rd | Woollerton CAMUSMOR CHILI PEPPER AT CULMGILLIE A sound 3 year old dog presented in very fit, muscled condition & attractive coat, head well proportioned with complimentary eye colour, eyes well set. Strong bone, tight, well padded feet & firm topline. Not as freely flowing as the winner in profile movement. |

1st | Strevens ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY JW SHCM Quality 2½ year dog I have had the pleasure of judging previously, developed into a fine example of the breed, full of true breed type, correct outline, lovely coat & well flagged tail. Strong masculine head not quite so well balanced here as the best dogs' but with delightful expression, dark eye colour, eyes correctly shaped & well set. Very sound on the move with jaunty gait & real reach in front & propelling drive from the rear. Still young & with a very bright future ahead. RBD |
2nd | Wakely RIVERWATCHER NUKILIK A 4½ year old dog, pushed the winner hard but just not the solid, muscled condition of the dog above. Lovely breed type & very sound on the move if slightly lacking in enthusiasm compared to the winner. Much to admire with well proportioned wedge shaped head, kind expression, presented in dense, well textured coat, tail correctly set & well flagged. |
3rd | Palfrey FOXDOWN BERTIE ALLSORTS SHCM Rising 7 years of age this dark coloured dog had a well balanced head, presented in good coat & condition, firm, level topline, well muscled throughout. Well angulated throughout, strong across the loins moved extremely well for his age in a sound, flowing & driving manner. |

Puppy Bitch (1 entry)
1st | Yates MELANITTA MILK AND HONEY A pleasing well angulated 7 months old bitch in good coat & condition for her young age, firming topline. Soft, kind expression, well boned but needs time to tighten all round standing & on the move, notably in front. Well coupled at the loin, good turn of stifles. BP |
Junior Bitch (2 entries)
1st | McAuliffe TIVALAKE TEMPTATION A 17 months old bitch somewhat sparse in coat, balanced head but could be more substantial & better wedged for me. Won her place on superior body condition, strong across the loins, level topline, well coupled with good bend of stifles. Preferred her movement at present to that of the puppy. |
2nd | Yates MELANITTA MILK AND HONEY |
Post Graduate Bitch (2 entries)
1st | Carnovale KYMIN ORANGE BLOSSOM OF RHEE 3 years 2 months old bitch I have had the pleasure of assessing before, striking for breed type & particularly kind, intelligent expression, complimentary eye colour to coat, well set & shaped. Strong bone & tight feet, well coupled & presented in full coat bloom, fit condition, well angulated throughout with well sprung ribcage. Movement behind could have been more positive on the day. |
2nd | McAuliffe TIVALAKE TEMPTATION |
Limit Bitch (2 entries)
1st | Newson TIVALAKE MORE THAN WISHES Very well made & angulated 3 year old bitch essentially sound though somewhat narrow on the move throughout but with excellent rear drive. Wide & strong across the loins with firm topline, a pleasing expression but would prefer more strength & wedging in the head shape, coat texture rather overly soft on the day for me. |
2nd | Ward MELANITTA GALATINA A 2 years 8 months old bitch not so well balanced overall as the winner being somewhat long in body length & slightly deep in brisket to length of leg with disproportionately large ears to head. Presented in lovely coat & condition with super muscling to her hindquarters & well turned stifles. Shoulders well angulated emphasising length of neck, good spring of ribcage, well boned throughout with firm, well rounded feet. Preferred the movement of the winner on the day. |
Open Bitch (2 entries)
1st | Black SEAHAVEN PARISH BELL A compact, solid 4 years 5 months old bitch & a very sound mover, head somewhat small for me & would prefer more wedge definition. Strong bone & well rounded feet, well sprung ribcage, muscled across the loins & well coupled. Solid straight front standing & most positive on the move with powerful driving action from the rear which won her the class & RBB. |
2nd | Ward MELANITTA MORNING GLORY 7 years 9 months old bitch of whom I preferred her head slightly to that of the winner though she did not possess her strong front. Well sprung ribcage, wide across the loins & level topline. Well turned stifles, presented in good, dense coat & well muscled hindquarter condition. Another exhibit being slightly too deep in body to length of leg was the impression for me but very attractively & cleanly presented. |
Veteran Dog or Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Harding & Whitehill SH CH TREVARGH THE ENTERTAINER AT BRIZEWOOD A grand 10 years 4 months old dog, truly masculine presence of great quality & excellent breed balance. Solid substance for a veteran with outstanding strength of bone & tight feet, superbly full, thick pads undoubtedly the best bone & feet in the entry. Beautifully balanced, wedged shaped head with lovely clear, dark eye & expression not showing his age, super length to his muzzle. Well sprung ribcage, well ribbed back but short in the couplings, in super body condition for his age, muscled across the loins & the very best of deep second thighs. Age showing slightly in rear movement but still retains immense power & drive with delightful, thick, well flagged tail carriage. Most sound & positive still in front an example to all the younger stock present of how movement should be conducted in this breed. The fact that he was short listed to the last eight in a very strong gundog group at nearly eleven years of age is true testimony to his enduring quality. My BD, BV & BOB without any hesitation today. |
2nd | Ward FLUSHPOINT WHATA ACCIDENT FOR MELANITTA (IMP SWE) 7 years 7 months old bitch impressed me for her excellent overall angulation & soundness. Good breed type & construction on display & another fit veteran well able to hold her own in the company of the younger stock on show today. One of the better coats on show amongst the bitches, in full bloom, pleasing colour & texture & lying well. Tail well flagged & carried, soft, kind, intelligent expression though ears are starting to look a tad large as age starts to tell on the head. I considered her the best of the bitches present today for type, maturity & soundness & therefore awarded her BB. |
3rd | Baker ERIKACHEN AONGHUS At 7 years 7 months of age this dog is another very sound & steady mover presented in dense coat well textured another possessing a pleasing soft, kind expression. Well sprung ribcage & short coupled with good bone throughout & tight, well rounded & padded feet. A smaller, rather low, heavy appearance for a dog but he still possesses many desirable & typical breed characteristics. |
