Overall - I had been looking forward to judging this breed in the UK. I was privileged to judge an excellent (40+) entry in Baltimore USA in March where I had some of the top winning dogs in the breed present and the reason I held back on this critique was that on the weekend just past I got to judge a Breed Specialty in Ontario, Canada where again there was a 40+ entry. I think the breed is in good shape in all countries and although there is talk about them being different, in my opinion a great deal of this is about presentation and showmanship. My top winners in all 3 countries would have pushed each other hard (although I probably found more strength in depth in Canada - which is good being that it is a native breed). It would be wonderful to have all my Best Dogs and Best Bitches together in one class. That would be a great sight and fun to judge.
I have become very fond of this breed the more I get to see them and I am glad to see it in such good shape and in such good hands.
The sportsmanship of the exhibitors in this breed worldwide is excellent with lots of applause and ringside support for each other. This makes judging even more pleasurable. Thanks to all of you for giving me the opportunity to appreciate this breed.
Veteran Dog or Bitch (1 entry)
1st | Morse EUSANIT RED DEVIL ROCKET 10 yo male still in good order. Nicely balanced all through and moved well, particularly in profile where I loved watching him go round. |
Puppy Dog (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Adshead AFONBACH WINTER IS COMING 9mo dog of good size. Correct colour and a very pleasing head. Correct body properties for his age and I think he could grow up to be a very good example of this breed. BPIB |
Junior Dog (2 entries)
1st | Adshead AFONBACH WINTER IS COMING |
2nd | Foster-Brown STELLENBOSCH TIBERON (AI) Another lovely youngster and at 15 months starting to come into his own. Liked his head and his overall correct breed type. I just preferred the better outline of the winner although this boy was close up. He moves well off of a particularly good rear end. |
Limit Dog (4 entries)
A close decision in this class, with both 1st and 2nd being of good type. Both had correct make and shape and both moved out well, particularly in profile. The winner had the slightly more pleasing front action when coming back and this took the class. I can see them both changing places often and both making up.
1st | Fielder SCHINDOW JUNIOR COWBOY WITH CRETSHENGAN |
2nd | Wright ERIKACHEN DAITHI OF WRIGHTPAW JW SHCM |
3rd | Langford TOLLERHOLME JACK IN A BOX |
Res | Burgess CAMUSMOR KING ROB |
Open Dog (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Strevens SH CH ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY JW SHCM 3yo male towards the darker end of the colour spectrum for the breed but still correct. Pleasing head, correct lay of shoulder, level topline and sound rear end. He moved around on great legs and feet and was pleasing to watch. Not surprised to find he is a Sh.Ch. and it is crown he wears with ease. Made the BOB decision hard but in the end just lost out to the top quality bitch. He was a very worthy BD |
2nd | Fielder PLAYING THE FIELDER AT CRETSHENGAN 7yo male who belies his age. Another with good angles fore and aft, correct topline and a steady and tidy mover. I liked him a lot. |
3rd | Fielder IR SH CH EUSANIT STAND AND DELIVER AT CRETSHENGAN |
Puppy Bitch (5 entries)
1st | Adshead AFONBACH DANCE WITH DRAGONS Very nice youngster, who might end up towards the top end of the preferred height for a bitch, but is well proportioned and balanced. Pleasing in head, correct outline and moved well. Will be nice to see her when mature. |
2nd | Sharpe TIVALAKE CRYSTAL BALL AT ROSETTIA Slightly smaller than my winner but again correct. Generally good balance although not as strong in rear end at the moment as the winner. Another that should grow on to be a nice bitch when mature. |
3rd | Westwood EUSANIT GONNA MAKE YOU A STAR |
Res | Smith TIVALAKE ANYTHING GOES AT TOLLISTY |
VHC | Langford TOLLERHOLME SHE'S A GOLDDIGA |
Junior Bitch (5 entries)
1st | Foster-Brown STELLENBOSCH SAUSAULITO (AI) 15mo bitch who I think could be a future Sh.Ch. She has correct make and shape, nicely balanced all through and moves out very soundly. A good prospect. |
2nd | Adshead AFONBACH DANCE WITH DRAGONS |
3rd | Sharpe TIVALAKE CRYSTAL BALL AT ROSETTIA |

Limit Bitch (6 entries)
1st | Adshead DANEHAVEN VERMILION FOR AFONBACH 3 1/2yo who is correctly angled front and rear and has a correct level topline which she holds well as she moves cleanly around on good feet. I preferred her front assembly and faction over 2nd although it was a good and close contest for the class. |
2nd | Morse TOLLYHIMMEL MISTY CIDER Correctly made 4 1/2 yo and another who moves well. Strong in topline and drives off a good rear. I liked her head and expression and found her to be another pleasing example of the breed. |
3rd | Rogers TOLLYHIMMEL DRUNKUN DUCK |
Res | Langford GABERLUNZIE MOIRA |
VHC | Ong & Henson SUMMER ROMANCE |
Open Bitch (5 entries, 1 absent)
1st | Westwood MULTI CH EUSANIT APPLE OF ONE'S EYE JW 5yo bitch in her prime. Is a great example of the breed and was the star today, although she made her handler work very hard for this win. One straight out of the top drawer and when she co-operated it was easy to see why she is so titled. I am not doing the whole "good head, nice lay of shoulder etc." type critique here. She won the breed in great competition so suffice to say she has many positive attributes and very little to dislike. I thought she also looked great in the Group. |
2nd | Fielder EUSANIT BEST OF THE BUNCH AT CRETSHENGAN Lovely bitch approaching almost 3yo. Not in her best coat but that just means nothing is easily hidden. Pleasing head and expression and has correct make and shape. Was worthy of her place in this class of 3 very good bitches. |
3rd | Morse TOLLYHIMMEL MISTY CIDER |
