Thank you to the Officers and Committee for this opportunity to award Challenge Certificates for the first time at this prestigious show, to my stewards Angie and Maureen and to all the exhibitors for their entries, 102 dogs making 121 entries.
As always the Toller exhibitors were extremely sporting and gracious regarding their placings and supportive of each other in all classes and around the ring, it was a pleasure to judge your dogs.
Breeders please note that our breed standard calls for a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite and there were a number of exhibits that were not correct to this requirement, mainly in the younger classes.
I must also mention height, mainly in the dog classes, as a number today were too big. The Toller is the smallest of the retriever family and should not be taller than a Flat Coated, Golden or Labrador, even if they are bitches. We have a specific ideal height written in our standard, dogs 19-20 inches, bitches 18-19 inches.
All that said there was still the quality, essence and tradition of the breed in many of the placed dogs.
Minor Puppy Dog (1 entry)
1st | DISQUALIFIED Stood alone today in this class, good size and typical outline. Impressed for bone and overall substance. Liked his head and ear set, good neck into decent front assembly. Maintained topline on the move although still a little loose at just 7 months. Nicely angulated. |
Puppy Dog (4 entries)
1st | Bate-Ash & Ash SINSIRCARIAD OLD FASHIONED Up to height youngster of a pleasing overall type. Liked his head, good ears and clean cut muzzle, flowing into good neck and front. Good short loin, moved out well maintaining topline and profile. |
2nd | Mansfield UNITED COLOURS OF CLAN BUCHANAN PARTRIDGEFEN (IMP FRA) Excellent for bone, substance and size. Good head and expression, a typical picture. Slightly bum high today. Superb coat but was spooked by something outside the ring. Handled well. |

1st | Burgess REDMANHEY'S COMTE DE LA FERE Smart young dog of 20 months. Really liked his overall outline and style, excellent bone. Great head, nice length of neck into strong front and then super throughout. Great on the move, sound in all directions, a well-deserved 1st in this class. |
2nd | Gregory EXETOLLERS WHAT'S THIS Slightly lighter all through than 1 but still of correct type. Not in best coat today but still presenting breed type. Good masculine head, nicely angulated, sound mover. Slightly nervous of everything in this class but still a happy dog. |

1st | Sewell CLEGANE INFERNO TO BREAKERSWELL What a happy Toller! Enjoying his showing time, full of beans. Up to size and on the lighter colour scale of the standard. Nice proportions with a good head piece, super short loin, good feet, excelled on the move today. Typical Toller temperament, happy outgoing dog which meant that at times he tried a little too hard for his handler. |
2nd | Greenwood COEDHELYG SON SHINE JW Super size and substance on this young boy. Excellent head and expression, nicely matching angles front and rear. Appeared slightly close behind going away, just couldn’t match 1 on his movement today. |

Excellent overall picture and excelled on his movement. I have written in my notes ‘style on the move’, very true, presented and handled well. |
2nd | Hughes ABACOT INTO THE UNKNOWN JW Very similar type to 1, could have easily swapped on another day. Stylish three year old with a super typical silhouette. Masculine strong head, good length of neck, well angulated and moved well. |

Thrilled to see him shortlisted and closely considered for a group place. DCC BOB |

Great to see the quality in this older class, very close decisions.
1st | Davies KATMISTSKY'S SOUL DREAM RL6-EX Good quality compact boy, well made and balanced body with correct angulation. Absolutely owned the ring on the move, to nit-pick would prefer a shade more muzzle length. I have written ‘full of vim and vigour’ in my notes, what a happy showy dog he is! BV |
2nd | Anstead MULTI CH RIVERWATCHER ATKA What a cracking dog for his age, now 11 years young, a pleasure to see him showing so well today. He can stand very straight behind but all is correct when hands on and on the move, superb side gait. It was a privilege to judge this quality boy, super on the go, handled well. |

Minor Puppy Bitch (2 entries)
1st | Chapman & Garner CEDARLAKE SANTA MARIA AT DKAI Very stylish young puppy. Good feminine head, clean cut muzzle, nice deep chest already with enough rib. Looking quite mature at this young age. Showing good power and drive on the move, liked her really smart neat feet. She was a bit giddy in the ring today but fine when settled. BP |
2nd | Greenwood COEDHELYG PRIM AND PROPER Nicely made young girl. Up to height and needs to mature in all areas, to be expected at just 7 months of age. Would like a bit more of her head, which will come with maturity, all the underpinning structure is correct. Moved well and was very calm in the ring. |
Puppy Bitch (8 entries)
1st | Peat TOLLISTY GINGER CHAI Well proportioned with good length to height ratio. Good head and earset, needs to mature in body and chest, plenty of time for that. Super straight legs, correct angulation meaning strong positive movement. |
2nd | Winship TARNLAIKERS DIZZY RASCAL Smaller all through than 1, liked her overall type. Took a while to settle today but with help of her handler gained confidence and moved well. |

In great muscle tone and condition, not in full coat today. Moved soundly and really well, excellent tail set and carriage, handled to advantage. |
2nd | How & Farley SAWBRIDGE LOCHBUIE A slightly older bitch of 2 ½ years. A very nicely made girl with great proportions and ratio. Super topline both standing and on the move. Being picky I would like a little bit more of her head. |

1st | Elkin TOLLELKIN DREAM DANCER JW Just 3 years old and has matured well. Really smart head into good strong front. Good topline and correct angulation. She was being hard work for her handler today and wanted to do all her movement at break neck speed but when settled I could see her quality of movement, I have ‘great style’ in my notes. |
2nd | Westwood EUSANIT ORCHARD THIEVES A year and half younger than 1, which showed in her overall maturity. A very well balanced girl, pretty feminine head, just lost out on her movement today. |

1st | Hughes EUSANIT GEM STONE AT ABACOT What a great bitch! Spot on for breed type, size, construction and movement. The old adage of ‘if it’s built well it will move well’ springs to mind, nothing out of place here. Super drive on the move, owning the ring today, especially in the Bitch Challenge. Proud to have awarded her Challenge Certificate number three, congratulations! BCC |
2nd | Trickett CFYRE'S SPELLBREAKER AT TOLLPEPPER (IMP CAN) Plainer type, still absolutely correct to the standard. Well built all through, in good coat. Gained this placing on her movement, really impressed on the go, well handled. |

What a super standard in this class at the top end, quality!
1st | Anstead SH CH RIVERWATCHER KODA A well deserved class win. Great look to her typical head, really good front assembly. Well angulated fore and aft, maintained a quality topline at all times, excellent feet. She gives that impression of strength and power, which was lacking in a number of the bitches. Moved beautifully, a very close decision today. RBCC |
2nd | Westwood SH CH EUSANIT EVER FALLEN IN LOVE Slightly smaller all through than 1, still a very good typical example. A feminine girl who is very ‘showy’, look at me! Another with superb feet. Can stand a little straight behind. |

1st | Pashley WAKADUZE WAH PEN DAH SKA Very attractive head and lovely feminine expression. Correct neck into a very good strong front assembly. Would just prefer a little less length overall. In her full and glorious coat today, moved beautifully, just flowing effortlessly around the ring with reach and drive. |
2nd | Hughes EUSANIT CUT AND RUN AT ABACOT VW Another quality bitch at 10 years young. She is so typical of the breed in size and structure, top notch head and all the rest follows suit. Fabulous and super profuse coat, moved freely and with style, still absolutely loving showing for her handler. |

2nd | Rolf & Parker TOLLPEPPER ECHO'S HOPE FOR SKYSARIA Very smart overall picture of good proportions and breed typical outline. Not as deep in chest as 1, still correct. Liked her lovely straight legs, nothing turning in or out. Moved well, super handling. |
