Very pleasing entry of 83 dogs, 95 entries and 9 absentees. A very happy breed – no wonder they have gained popularity. I found judging difficult, with size the feature which varied most. Heads seemed even, and mouths were in the main very good with strong teeth, and only few with small incisors. There is a crop of very nice youngsters coming up which augers well for the breed. Handlers had worked hard on their charges – most were in excellent condition, and my hands were as clean when I finished judging as when I started.

1st | Harding & Whitehill NAROD THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM Wow! Fabulous dog from any angle. I have done him well in the past and wondered if he would still stand up to scrutiny in a Crufts entry, but the result says it all. To my eyes, shouts good construction to work all day playing along the foreshore and swimming to retrieve shot ducks. Fits the head and outline which I find correct. Clean cut, slightly wedge shaped head. Optimum angulation fore and aft, plenty of heart and lung room, compact body and is of an ideal size. Excellent tail – broad at base and of good length, with full feathering. His movement was just what I was looking for – a combination of power and spring, with an impression of fun and jauntiness, and a tail curved upwards and wagging in enjoyment. BD, and BOB. Delighted his son was RBD and his daughter was BB and BP. |
2nd | Edridge CAMUSMOR BRUICHLADDICH AT TILITA SHCM Another dog of star quality. A strong, powerful dog who is very sound on the move. Good head and type. In fabulous coat. Really soft, dense undercoat and straight repellent top coat. Just right for furnishings. Good front, lovely straight forelegs with neat feet. Strongly muscled neck and deep chest. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Plenty of body, perhaps a shade too much. Excellent full and bushy tail. |
3rd | Smith CAMUSMOR GLEN SCOTIA AT DALLYVISTA Very well balanced, compact dog who also shouts good type and construction. Good front, well proportioned body. In good coat and moved very well. Not quite the star appeal on the day as the two above. |
